Digital Capital Markets
Decentralized Finance is one of the most prominent phenomena resulting from the digitalization of the financial sector. Decentralized Finance allows to settle transactions without referring to financial intermediaries. This poses challenges for conventional regulatory approaches as they traditionally address financial intermediaries, trading venues or payment service providers. Against this backdrop, the chair is dedicated to the question of the extent to which “classic” capital market regulations can be transferred to decentralized financial applications.
The introduction of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is being considered or tested currently by central banks around the world. In the Eurozone, the introduction of a digital Euro is drawing closer. This raises various practical and legal questions, which are addressed in various publications.
Public Law
Public Law traditionally deals with the relationship between the state and the individual as well as with questions of state organization. It thus deals with many issues that are of fundamental importance for a democratic community based on the rule of law. Research in this field focuses on Constitutional, European and Administrative Law, including Legal Theory.
