Information Systems

The chair of information systems investigates how better decisions can be generated from the collaboration between human expertise and information systems (augmented intelligence). Information systems are understood as social-technical systems and therefore technology is considered in interaction with individuals, organizations, and society. Currently, the chair is engaged in the following main research areas:

• AI in decision-making processes: The focus is on the role of human metacognitions (thinking about thinking) for decision processes with AI systems and the interaction between human metacognitions with the design of AI systems (e.g., explainability).
• Impact of generative AI systems on human creativity: where does human creativity fit? What is the impact of human expertise when interacting with AI systems?
• Impact of generative AI systems on human creativity: where does human creativity fit? What is the impact of human expertise when interacting with AI systems?
• Algorithm aversion: when do humans develop an aversion to algorithms? When would humans prefer to interact with other humans instead of algorithms?
• Use of AI systems in practice: What challenges do organizations face to effectively implement AI systems?
• Digital Health: How are new technologies changing ways of working in healthcare?

In teaching, the department offers master courses (e.g. “Digital Health”) as well as seminars (“Human-AI collaboration”). In addition, theses on current topics are offered.
